Hello Turkey Day!

Happy Thanksgiving, people cross-country. I think this post should be about how to do turkey day in style.

Tip Number #1: If you have to cook, look good doing it!
Typically, there's nothing cute about cooking... unless you're a five year old with an Easy Bake Oven. Flour all over, grease, stuffing the turkey... enough said, right? Well, let's change all that!

The Family's going to see you cook, your friends are going to see you doing it, invest in a cute apron. (As pictured: Black Cherry Apron, $28.40, flirtyaprons.com) A cute apron screams, "Look at me! Martha Stewart wishes she was me!"

In addition to having a cute apron, you have to have a great, comfortable outfit to go on underneath, that will be quick to change from heavy working in the kitchen to classy hostess.

No one wants hair in their food, so it's more re-assuring if the hostess is wearing their hair at least pulled back. My favorite way to get hair out of my face is the messy bun. Step 1: pull hair into a ponytail with a strong holder. You can do this at the nape of your neck, to the right side, to the left side, or create a high ponytail. My favorite is the high ponytail for this look. Step 2: Grab the ponytail and wrap it around the holder. Step 3: After wrapping hair around the ponytail, secure with a rubber band, wrapping the band around the bun twice. To take care of stray hairs, I spray my hair with Got2B Dazzling shine spray (most drugstores have it, I can no longer find it at CVS, but I can find it at Walgreens!)

My favorite part of the messy bun is the fact that you can decorate it however you want to! You can throw on a cute headband, or tie a cute ribbon around the base of the bun. You can even attach a clip-on flower. (I found my favorite flower accessory at Hot Topic.) For the best dressed-up messy bun, I put on hair pins. The hair pins pictured come from haircomesthebride.com for 14.99 each. the ones I use came from my local hairdresser for around $2 each, and were less over-the-top dressy. Hair pins are great for hiding the ponytail holder and giving a little class to your hair.

As for the best clothes to wear, wear a nice shirt under your apron. Short-sleeved shirts work best. Also, try to avoid white! You're cooking, stains happen! (Besides, Thanksgiving IS after labor day.) The blouse pictured is Juicy Couture for $168.00.
I don't suggest a blouse this expensive. In fact, you should try JC Penney for nice blouses. Bisou Bisou and a.n.a are my favorites. They have the best color patterns and most flattering fits. You can also follow this up with a pair of comfortable slacks, or jeans. And your most comfortable pair of heels, or take this time to pull out your patent leather ballet flats that you haven't worn since last fall. Their craze may have past, but they're still comfortable and stylish!

You also need a gorgeous fall centerpiece! Personally, I appreciate color! I think that color gives off personality and style. My favorite vase that I've run across are these Jewel Bud Vases from RedEnvelope.com, for $44.95. They can only fit a few single buds, which are much more simple than a whole bouquet, and easier to see over. Also, they come in jewel tones which are always favored in fall. If you think that the simple buds leave to much empty space in the vase, you can fill it with jewel colored stones from Hobby Lobby!

For those of us who feel bad enough splurging on the Turkey and Gravy Calories... Here's a dessert that will make you feel like a healthy eater. I call them Pumpkin brownies. Add a 15-ounce can of pure pumpkin to a box of devil's food cake mix. Then fix according to the directions on the box. Don't add anything else! They're fantastic!! (I stole this recipe from Hungry Girl, me and my mother... and my spanish class have tried them and I haven't met a person who hasn't liked them yet.)
Happy Turkey Day!
